How to Train Your Dragon 2: Your Ticket to Adventure into the Unknown

If you already know How to Train Your Dragon, don’t be too confident that you know all the instructions because How to Train Your Dragon 2 is coming. After earning about $500 million in worldwide box offices and a handful of positive reviews, it is no wonder that DreamWorks is planning for a second installment. Plot has not been released; perhaps it is part of sharing the adventure with you. Fortunately, there are some clues about how exciting the movie is going to be.

Most of the cast from the previous movie will return to voice the main characters. The cast includes Jay Baruchel, America Ferreira, Craig Ferguson, Jona Hill, TJ Miller, Gerard Butler, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Kristen Wiig. Like How to Train Your Dragon, How to Train Your Dragon 2 is an animated film that covers adventure, action, and fantasy. The release date for the film is June 20, 2014.

There have been rumors that Butler will not return to reprise his roles as Stoick, Hiccup’s father, when the initial details of the film were released. His name was not included in the preliminary list. Apparently, Stoick still has some important things to do so we may still be seeing him until the third film installation.

For those who are not familiar with How to Train your Dragon, the story is about a mythical place inhabited by Vikings. There is a young boy named Hiccup who dreams of becoming a dragon slayer. Hunting dragons is part of their tradition that Hiccup wants to follow. However, having captured a dragon awakened his yearning to befriend the creature. And by the time that the tribe is about to accept him, he lost the desire to kill the once fierce and feared creature.

How to Train Your Dragon was released in the United States on 6 March 2010. The film was nominated in the 83rd Academy awards for Best Original Score and Best Animated Picture. The movie lost to the Social Network and Toy Story 3 respectively. Nevertheless, the film won 10 Annie Awards including the Best Animated Feature. Aside from the significant awards, the film was well received by critics. Ninety percent of 163 professional Rotten Tomatoes critics have given it a positive review. Overall, its average rating is 7.9 out of 10.

The Chicago Sun Times writer Roger Ebert gave three stars for the film out of four for being good-looking, bright, and energetic. USA Today reporter Claudia Puig gave the film 3.5 out of four stars for its emphasis on a sweet yet poignant friendship between man and dragons and its in-depth perspective of a tale that speaks about coming of age. Indeed, there is a lot to see from the first movie and for sure there is a lot to be seen in the next.

To make sure that the second film is excellently made, DreamWorks took back former co-director and co-writer Dean DeBlois. DeBlois co-wrote and co-directed the first movie with Chris Sanders who will now work as the executive producer with Bonnie Arnold. Aside from directing, DeBlois will take full responsibility for writing the story. The team is yet to release the complete plot details, leaving the fans clueless. However, DeBlois gave a hint during an interview that the movie will revolve around carrying the themes forward with Hiccup and Toothless expanding their world to unknown reaches.

Another fragment that we can put in the plot puzzle is that the story will move beyond the little island of North Sea where the events in first film took place. Hiccup goes farther for greater experience which is necessary for him to become his Viking village’s future leader. New characters, whose role will become more crucial in the third film, will be included. Yes, you heard it correctly, there is going to be a third How To Train Your Dragon. DeBlois added that How To Train Your Dragon 2 to will take the elements of the first film and at the same time will draw the lines for the third. As a result, fans will be able to see a progressive story that becomes bigger and grander each and every time.

How to Tran Your Dragon 2014 still leaves a lot of room to your imagination. Maybe a new band of bad dragons will come. Perhaps these dragons are up to destroy the Vikings and Hiccup saves the day. It is important to note that the producers of the film are going forward with the story. It is a good thing that they are not planning for a rehash because that would simply mean boring. This new movie will be in 3D, something that is essential to bring fantasy into life.

Moving on, DreamWorks is planning to make the Dragon their new franchise. In fact, it is reported in the news that How To Train Your Dragon will appear as a TV series. DreamWorks has already signed a deal with Cartoon Network and the production for the animated series has now commenced. That said, How to Train Your Dragon will be the first to be aired in Cartoon Network and not in Nickelodeon. The TV series is aimed to be broadcast worldwide some time in 2012.

What is more exciting about the TV franchise is unlike Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar, How to Train Your Dragon will be darker and will tackle a lot of serious themes as it was in the movies. Producer Tim Johnson has already confirmed that work for the TV series has already begun and it won't take long for fans to lay eyes on the weekly series.
